Based on desired monthly salary
If you know how much you'd like to earn each month, calculating your hourly rate is straightforward.
Formula
Hourly Rate = Monthly Salary ÷ Monthly Working Hours
Example
- Desired monthly salary
- $5,000
- Working hours per week
- 40
- Average monthly working hours
- 40 × 52 ÷ 12 = 173.3 hours
If you work fewer hours each month, your hourly rate must increase to reach the same income goal.
